Nancy of notquiteold has nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award. So I have to write seven things about me and then nominate 15 other bloggers.
Here are 7 tasty tidbits about me:
1. I’m an only child.
2. I don’t ride a bicycle.
3. My food choices are on par with a five year old.
4. I shook the Dalai Lama’s hand.
5. I have a deathly fear of heights.
6. I’m a former Special Ed teacher.
7. I can still recite the beginning of the old Superman TV show (Superman, strange visitor from another planet…)
There are way too many good blogs to narrow them down to 15. And, because I switched my blog theme, my list of links to people I follow vaporized. So I know I’m forgetting some good people. But here is a list anyway. I know I’ve mentioned a few of these people before. And several people on this list already have a great following. But maybe you won’t be familiar with some others and you will look them up. That would be swell:

Note to nominated bloggers: Don’t feel the need to do anything as a result of this award. Except to keep writing.
Note to everyone: I am having a terrible time with these links. The two month old got to sleep at 2AM and the two year old woke up at 5:45AM. So there.

Ah, the old Versatile Blogger Award–can’t thank you enough for this honor! It’s been mine before (at least twice) but, gosh (blushing), can’t hurt to have another round. An award is an award –right!
At any rate, I have two two posts that I really could use your feedback on. The first shares what I think might be the opening scene of my memoir–“It’s the Forgetting I Remember Most (A Childhood among the Mafia). The second is another memoir post about my struggle with issues of privacy–my mother’s, to be specific. It’s called “Muted No More: How Memoir Complicates Notions of Privacy.”
I’ve gotten TONS of feedback on the latter, but you’re the only one I “know” who has written a memoir, so I would value your perspective.

Again, thanks for the honor!

Will do! And you are welcome. I hesitate to nominate anyone because it places a responsibility on people. When I started blogging, I thought I’d never participate in the awards. But, it’s a great way to acknowledge others.

I am awed by the Dalai Lama handshake revelation. (I had to scroll up three times to make sure I had it spelled correctly. SpellCheck apparently doesn’t know him.)
I’m honored to be included on your list and thanks for the extra-added bonus of not making me do anything! I can’t wait to check out the ones you’ve nominated.
If there’s an award for having, as Mona Lisa Vito said to My Cousin Vinny, a “dead-on balls accurate” view of the country, I’d nominate you for that one, too.
Carry on. . . and thank you again.

Thanks, Mary Lee. More amazing about the handshake is that he was wearing either a dayglo orange or gree baseball cap, set sideways on his head and was holding a bottle of water. I should do a post about it.

I would like to meet the Dalai Lama. Seriously. Him and James Taylor. Together would be good.

I think I’ll write about meeting him. It was actually amazing.

Well, I got three other nominations this week as well….thanks so much, though, I really do appreciate it. My head is getting bigger by the moment.
I nearly took up drinking trying to get the links to work! But I was out of Jello Shots.
I will keep writing, of course. Like I could stop now!
Looking forward to the Dalai Lama post, but then, again I look forward to all your posts.

Thank you for this! *cheer* I love that you state no additional action (save simply writing) is required; I feel guilt over all kinds of things I ought not, so this approach leaves me with all the smiles and none of the “egads, where do this go on the list?!”
Also? Dalai Lama. I think that’s the most surprising, awesome random fact I’ve yet read. I love imagining the circumstances.

You’re welcome. And it’s obvious that I will have to write a post about this.

“You like me. You really like me!” My apologies to Sally field. That’s probably way over-used. I just want to thank you for the mention. I started blogging only about a month ago on here and I’m hooked. My hope of writing the Great American Novel has been shelved because this is so much more fun. Writing- or trying to write- a novel is hard work! Can’t wait to check out your other nominees.

Wow, thank you!
Did you recite the beginning of Superman when you shook the Dalai Lama’s hand? I think he would enjoy that.

Gee, he could have been a Superman fan, and I missed my opportunity.

Yippee!! I’d write woohoo, but I’m pretty sure it’s spelled differently.
Thank you.. it’s an honor to be on the same page!
Should I cruise back through the archives to find the Dalai Lama story? That’s pretty impressive…I also loved the old Superman show… why aren’t tv shows still like that? I will write my revelations, carefully and discreetly, tonight!

What a nice surprise! Thanks. I am wondering if I have seven tasty tidbits to share or will I have to make them up? And will someone catch me if I do?

I don’t want anyone to feel compelled to do anything, although I personally would love to read a mix of true and not true and decide which is which. I forgot to say I won the Nobel a few years ago.
