Life in the Boomer Lane is always looking for clever ways to whiten her teeth. She is currently dipping her toothpaste-coated toothbrush into baking soda. She admits that, for that reason, the following guest post caught her attention. Let her know if you try clay. She’ll write an entire post about your pearly whites.

Do you know that in 2015 alone, Americans spent $11 billion on teeth whitening procedures and over $1.4 billion on natural products used in homes? The figures are astounding and prove that people are very much concerned about their appearance.
It is said that teeth are the foremost thing noticed by people when they meet someone for the first time. You definitely don’t want to suppress your smile and neither would like to face any sort of embarrassment because of yellow teeth.
Apart from visiting the dentist near you, here are some of the natural ways to make your teeth white again:
Oil Pulling
It is a traditional Indian remedy which not only ensures your oral hygiene but also removes toxins from the body. Any oil will work in this procedure but the Indians tend to use sunflower or sesame oil usually. You are required to swish the oil in your mouth as this helps in removing the bacteria which can turn into plaque causing yellowing of teeth. It is a safe practice with no side effects so you should definitely give it a try for maintaining white teeth.
Baking Soda
Some of you might not know but baking soda has natural whitening properties and is an integral part of a number of commercial toothpaste. Brushing your teeth with baking soda on a regular basis can remove the stains and bring a significant difference in your appearance. However, you need to keep in mind that this procedure will not work overnight and requires some time to show its effectiveness.
Hydrogen Peroxide
For years, people have been using hydrogen peroxide as a natural bleaching agent killing the bacteria in the mouth. Commercial whitening products have hydrogen peroxide in them at a relatively high concentration. There no studies which prove that hydrogen peroxide alone can do wonders, however, when 1% of it is combined with baking soda, it leads to considerably white teeth. Another study found that using a toothpaste containing hydrogen peroxide and baking soda twice daily led to 62% whiter teeth in a time span of 6 weeks.
Apple Cider Vinegar
We have seen people use apple cider vinegar for centuries as it has natural cleaning properties and is a disinfectant. It is because of the presence of acetic acid in it that leads to the killing of all the bacteria in the mouth. An experiment was performed on cow’s teeth that revealed that apple cider vinegar indeed had a whitening effect on the teeth. However, one side effect was that it also leads to the softening of the teeth.
Clay
A unique property of clays is that they are soft and yet can polish any surface effectively. White Kaolin Clay is said to have the highest score on cleaning efficiency as proved by a few types of research. The cleaning efficiency score is measured by combining the ability to remove stains and low-level of abrasiveness. It can easily be applied on the teeth and the stains can be removed to bring back the whiteness of the teeth.
Never ever underestimate the importance of regular brushing and flossing as it can delay the tooth discoloration which comes with aging. Visit the dentist near you and get regular cleanings as that will also help in maintaining white teeth and flaunting a beautiful, radiant smile.

so this suggests that using white paint in my tooth paste might not be high on the list of whiting agents.

And all of them will, to varying degrees, leach the good stuff out of your teeth that keep ’em all happily lined up in your mouth. 😀
