Life in the Boomer Lane is having a bad week. She is finding it increasingly difficult to keep track of what various politico-types are suggesting as ways to deal with the horrific events that occured in Paris.
The following is a test for all loyal readers. After each person’s name, there are statements. One is true. The other(s) is/are false. Others might be figments of LBL’s imagination, because she is so horrified at the rampant stupidity spewing out of these people’s mouths. See if you can tell which is which.
Donald Trump
1. “(This happened because) Nobody had guns but the bad guys”
2. “Muslims should carry special identification, showing their faith”
2. “My hair is real and my penis is really big”
4. “We’ll build a wall around all Syrians, and Obama will pay for it”
Ben Carson
1. “Carve out a piece of Egypt for the Syrians to live, so they don’t clutter up the rest of the world. Let them eat all that grain that’s stored in the pyramids.”
2. “Block all people from the Middle East from coming into the US” When asked which countries, specifically, would be affected, Carson answered, “As soon as my advisors tell me which countries are part of the Middle East, I’ll get back to you.”
3. “Congress does have a role to play here, and it’s not just being the peanut gallery.” (Howdy Doody issued a response from the assisted living facility in Florida, where he is now a resident: “I am offended beyond all reason that Dr Carson tries to legitimize Congress by comparing it to an integral component of our well-loved show.”)
David Bowers, the mayor of Roanoke, VA
1. ” We need to build Japanese-style internment camps for all the Syrian refugees”
2. “I may be a Democrat, but I have just as much right to be an idiot as Republicans do.”
Mike Huckabee
1. “It’s time to wake up and smell the falafel.”
2. “It’s time to walk up and shell the brothel.”
3. “What the hell does falafel smell like, anyway?”
Marco Rubio
1. “ISIS is a subhuman species of undefiable genetic material, who are a composite of human DNA and Wal-Mart shoppers”
2. “What occured in Paris was a ‘clash of civilizations'”
Ted Cruz
- “We should accept Christians from Syria, and only Christians, because there is no meaningful risk of Christians committing acts of terror.”
- “Oklahoma City, Ireland, Charleston, the Ku Klux Klan, the Spanish Inquisition, the Crusades, and all that other stuff doesn’t count.”
It isn’t clear what Ebola, the Fox News-created crisis, has to do with any of this, but LBL has noted that the Syrian immigrant crisis occured shortly after Ebola allegedly went away. Why aren’t people talking about this? LBL’s own opinion is that Obama wasn’t successful in bringing Ebola to America (he tried) so he brought Syrian refugees, instead.
Another thing that bothers LBL: Where are the Mexicans in all this? Was Paris merely a diversion that now allows millions of Mexicans to slip across the border while we aren’t paying attention because we are all Tweeting about militant Muslims? And the people who aren’t tweeting about Muslims are all out buying guns in order to protect themselves? And the people who aren’t tweeting about Muslims or out buying guns to protect themselves are talking about Obama being born in Africa (in the country of your choice) and being a Muslim and having the agenda of bringing this country down?
LBL is confused into inaction.

The bar seems to be set so low that we keep having to dig the hole deeper and deeper to accomodate.

I wish there was a button we could press that would send electricity into the heads of all of these jokers. Not enough to kill, mind you. Just enough to restart their brains because I’m pretty sure they are currently dormant.

I particularly love Ted Cruz, who has never heard of Timothy McVeigh, that nice young Christian white boy who murdered all those babies in daycare.

What is going to happen??? I just don’t see Hillary winning a general election. Dark days!

Hillary has a shot at it, unless there are more acts of terrorism. Then the entire country will be consumed by a mixture of fear and a need for revenge. Enter The Donald, waving his big dick.

I guess the freedom of religion and separation of church and state clauses imbedded in our constitution don’t matter. I guess peeing on our ideals and forgetting we are a nation of immigrants. We also seem to forget our compassion. Yet, the irony is doing this does not make us safer. These folks are playing into the hands if ISIS by writing their recruiting pieces for them. We combat terrorism in large part by our freedoms and civil rights for all. If we cede the higher ground, the terrorists win. Key sidebar – terrorists won’t be coming through the lengthy and deliberate vetting refugee process. They are homegrown of will be coming through Visas.

Great comment. Would that they realized that, Keith.

LBL! Please, I can’t survive laying on the floor for 15 minutes unable to get up (aside: uncontrollable laughing fit). You listed 6 named politicians (aside: we all know these names) and challenged your readers with a test. OK I have the guts to go out on a limb though I don’t qualify for: DT.2.2. The only possible true answer is: DT.1. I personally don’t have a firearm (aside: maybe I should). Notwithstanding, if every Parisian: man, woman and child possessed a firearm would have made no difference in the outcome of the Paris attacks. The French, The Germans, all of North Europe, The Americans all enjoy a certain Democratic freedom: (they) we go out at night to the restaurants, cafes, theaters, entertainment venues et. al. with the thought in mind to enjoy ourselves, enjoy our freedom to do what we want, when we want, where we want without fear of reprisal. The previous statement is reason enough why our enemies are: shooting and bombing anything, anyone, any state that represents freedom. Freedom runs counter to the objectives of our enemies.

There was a study done recently, in which college students were trained in firearms use AND told ahead of time that a terrorist would appear. The end result, as you might suspect, was a disaster. The sad fact is that the ability to use a gun is a small part of keeping onself safe or preventing violence. Ordinary people simply don’t have that kind of training.

No fair giving us trick questions. Donald Trump either said, or thought, ALL of those quotes.

I’m laughing. The Donald probably said all this and worse. He has already backed off of his statement about ID cards, which shows that he has had a tiny taste of the reality of being in political office. Unlike the business world, in national politics you must sometimes actually answer to the people or to your fellow legislators. I don’t think he has ever actually grasped that concept.

So tomorrow’s post will cover the Democrats, I’m thinking?
Life in the Boomer Lane
November 21, 2015
For many years, Dawn, I was an Independant. Even now, I respect knowledge and thoughfulness over a party line. I would rather listen to a Republican who understands how our government works, but comes to different conclusions about how best to govern, than to someone who purports to be a Democrat but has no understanding of the legislative process. The current crop of Republicans exhibit a serious lack of understanding about our political process. Many republicans (and I have spoken to them) believe their party has been hijacked. It’s sad, because there have been so many intelligent, thoughtful, and knowledgeable Republicans in the past. Where are those people now? While I would love to give equal time to Dems, their lack of understanding, their tendancy to hysteria, and their fear mongering don’t seem to be at the same level.

Dear LBL, I wish I were feeling confused. Instead I am feeling terrified that “The Donald” will win not only win his party’s nomination, but also the election He is reminding me more and more of Hitler, who was, as we all know, a megalomaniac, militaristic, believing that a particular group was the root of all problems and who was able to stir the masses into the frenzy that became an insane form of fascist nationalism.

The only thing that keeps me from going full-tilt boogie with fear over the prospect of a President Donald is that I keep thinking that he is in for a rude awakening at just how little power the President actually has. A few minutes after he made that idiotic statement about ID cards for Muslims, there was a huge outcry. He immediately issued a statement to say he had never suggested that, in the first place, and blamed it on the reporter. He was lying, of course. But he had maybe an inkling that being the President might not be the same as being a real estate dictator with unlimited money and unlimited power.

I’m kind of glad I don’t trip over a lot of the U.S. news to read some of the public negative stupidity re Muslims and refugees in general.
Of course here in Canada there’s fear, negative stuff. Sure, I agree with controls and screening… the tenor of public opinion in Canada is more about not taking in a lot of refugees in a very short time period without proper screening.
So has the U.S. still not come around to accepting any Syrian refugees at this time?

Canada is accepting up to 25,000: http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2015/11/24/liberals-push-back-deadline-on-syrian-refugees.html
Our city is accepting around 2,000. First 100 I think came into our city. Our city mayor (1.2 million locals live here), is Muslim. Educated at Harvard, born in Canada (Toronto).

We all witnessed it. It was on CNN if I recall correctly. Doesn’t make him special. Next he’ll be telling us he was one of the first responders.
