Thrust into London for Deep and Penetrating Research

Posted on March 13, 2012

Three people have now expressed their desire to have me continue with my posts on the Fifty Shades of Grey books.  In my literary universe, this constitutes a veritable groundswell, and I’m up to the challenge.  The third installment in the series, in which Christian and Ana test the ease, efficiency, and calorie count of various new sadomasochistic products on the market and then report on them for the Today Show, just came out.

In this wacky, ready-to-pop-at-any-moment bubble of a world, in which the domain of fantasy creation has been expanded from sci-fi writers to politicians, I want in. To accomplish this, I am leaving for London in a few hours.

My daughter thinks I am coming to visit her, my son-in-law and my two grandsons. But I am secretly going there to see if I am struck by the same bolt of literary coma as EL James, a Brit, was when she wrote the Grey books.  If I am successful, you will have one more installment of forgettable mommy porn (as the books have been dubbed) or in my case, grandmommy porn, to read.    If not, you might have to slog through my treatise on metaphysical English poets of the 17th century.  John Donne. Yum.
