Back in 1953, the Cut and Shoot, Texas Travelling Circus broke all records for the number of clowns (46) stuffed into a clown car. That record has been shatterd in the last couple days by the number of executive orders now stuffed into our collective brains by the Now and Forever First Ever True Leader of the U S of T (name change pending).
But we are not gathered to discuss such trivial pursuits. Instead, Life in the Boomer Lane will now make good on a promise she made to Loyal Readers recently, that of letting Readers know about things that can make a real difference to the planet that cost nothing, involve virtually no effort and make one feel truly swell about oneslf (or something like that).
She startes with One 5C. It’s is a different kind of Let’s-Save-the-Planet type thing. It is run by some folks who, in addition to believing that we are all living on a huge oblate spheroid that is about to implode at any given moment, believe that we should spend our last few of those moments looking environmental disaster square in the face.
Joe Brown, the founder and publisher, was an exec at Hearst Magazines, publishers of the country’s biggest auto publications. He was also a veteran science and tech journalist. He had his epiphany back in 2011 when he read the UN’s 5th Climate Assessment Report, and, in his own words, “realized that doing my job wasn’t helping the problem. Shortly after coming home, I left that gig and started One5C.”
Corinne Iozzio, editor-in-chief, ran a publication that was going “ecommerce bananas, and all I could think was ‘I’m done selling people shit thay don’t need.'”
Life in the Boomer Lane has no idea how she found these people, but she did. She was convinced that she made the right choice when the first line of her first newsletter said, “You are going to change the world.” This got her attention. Anyone who knows LBL knows that she is prone to speak in superlatives and in utterances that are ringed by neon lights. She is also fond of saying things like “Every single person must stop whatever they are doing and read this book immediately.” Another is “This should be required reading/viewing for every human at birth.” When Now Husband makes her angry, she tells him that he is ruining her life. If she can’t climb to the mountain top because of a parlyzing fear of heights, she will do so in her reactions to what life places in front of her.
She awaits each issue of One5C, knowing there will be something of value. She has aleady changed the choices of various products she buys, or at least was inspired to do research about her original choices.
“But hold your horses!” some of you are saying. “The Precious Leader has outlawed climate change!” We no longer have to worry about anything!” If you are one of those folks, LBL is here to tell you that you should find another blog to follow immediately, if not sooner. LBL will continue to believe in the perils of climate change, the benefits of equal opportunity for all humans, and will contine to advocate for high standards in ice cream production.
So go forth and multiply, or at least check out the website. It’s worth it. And, if you continue to accept cheap ice cream, don’t say LBL didn’t warn you.

What-the-hey LBL…
You really did it this time…
Reading your post I didn’t get past: the link ‘one5c’ before navving over and subscribing after reading most if not all of the immediate content…
When I finish my reply I plan on sending an email to: Joe at his behest gleaned from the Welcome-aboard-reply…
The following is the content, my ideas and/or efforts made to contribute something positive to this clod we’re on notwithstanding the futility…
My plan is not to: ‘one-up’ Joe (no pun intended) rather to just convey why I have subscribed to one5c with the actual day-to-day facts of my lifestyle…
one5c has a main dropdown displaying:
Food waste Plastic pollution Home Energy
#1: On my 40′ sloop I use a SS created by a sailboat cruising couple astrolabesailing.com Americans are so spoiled as to have no idea of austerity or how to pull in the belt a notch or two… Case-in-point after reading their content I grocery shop once a month < $100.00 Is the mealplan somewhat repetitive… Yes, it is…
#2: Do I use single use plastic… Yes, very limited replacing plastic with Silicone storage bags whenever possible… And, if I ever sail to the Caribe I plan on joining area dive clubs that clean the sea bottom and top…
#3: As you may have guessed by now my ‘Home’ is a 40′ masthead sloop… 3 years ago I started a conversion project to install: PV, batteries and electronic smarts to monitor the hardware… My 2024 power bill averaged $0.50/day…
All of the above has no incentive to apply this much effort toward a world facing one5c… Not even Biden’s IRA (I read each bullet thru) allowed for a tax break or some remuneration for the cost of purchase and install for a more efficient ‘home’ energy plan…
Reason: sailboats don’t qualify…
As you posted you want to make good on a promise: to do or report on something that may make a difference in this case I’m curious about Joe’s response to the question: why is the so-called ‘climate initiative’ or one5c or however this may be labeled why does such organizations headed by experts believe carbon is emitted only on land…?
I want to report the Earth is 75% water with millions of vessels in all the seas (marinetraffic.com)… All of which are polluting yet could easily be converted generating more clean energy than any single house or building on land…

Thanks for another thought-inducing comment. As basic government protections fade away in this Alt Universe that we are forced to endure for the next four years, it’s incumbant upon us to do whatever we can to be aware and to make good choices about our lives.
I loved your last paragraph. Water, in all its forms, is essential for life on the planet. And it’s the the least understood (and correctly used) resource. We’ve watched rivers and lakes no longer able to sustain life. We’ve watched sealife in oceans diminish. We’ve watched countries losing more and more potable water, while others suffer the effects of extreme rain and flood.
Here in the US, as we continue our lavish use of water, the prognosis isn’t good. As regulatory agencies become impotent here at home, the water we depend on will become lass and lass safe. And that will unleash a host of issues that most of us have never had to deal with before.

I’m thinking you meant to say “Wow,” as opposed to “Eww,” in which case I say “Thanks for reading and for responding.”

I clinked on the link and was greeted with “no one should wipe their butt with virgin trees.” I don’t disagree. Lots of information there.

It’s like that ancient adage, “A teaspoon of sugar make the medicine go down.” Humor is the sugar that makes uncomfortable truths go down.
