Jasmine Crockett

Life in the Boomer Lane has been entirely fed up with the There-are-no-longer-any-words-to-express-this behavior of Trump, his followers, the entire GOP in general, conservative media, people who know what is happening and choose to ignore it, and a whole bunch of other stuff that signals the end of democracy or of the world, whichever occurs first. She writes about the same stuff to the same people who are as disgusted and outraged and terrified as she is. Lately, she has seriously considered stopping this blog because she simply has nothing new to say about politics (or climate or the horrors of the world in general) but can’t write about the normal mishaps of life because it seems so frivolous, given what else is going on.

Then last week, when she wasn’t on a mountain or in a cave or under a tree, a vision appeared to her. The vision was in the form of a 42-year-old African American woman by the name of Jasimine Crokett, who is a freshman congresswoman from the state of Texas. LBL watched in wonder as she saw Crockett speak during the Biden impeachment committee inquiry. She handed the GOP’s butts to them on a plate, in the way of a normally lovely, educated mom who morphs into something else entirely when she has returned from a business trip to discover that her 18 year old son has had a wild party in her absense and completely trashed the house.

Why had she never heard of this silver-tongued voice of sanity before? She immediately dove into everything she could find about Crockett: practicing civil rights and criminal attorney for 16 years, married, two kids, beautiful, etc. She watched countless videos of Crockett in Congress and in the media. Each video was a revelation.

Crockett is the Mom on A Rampage the GOP kids need to hear. She has reached her limit with their reckless behavior. Among a boatload of verbal gems at the impreachment inquiry, she said “They (the GOP) don’t know what this is,” holding up photos from the indictment against Trump for hoarding classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. “These are our national secrets, looks like in the shitter to me.” Interviewed later by CNN and asked about her choice of language (specifically, the first time the word “shitter” was entered into the Congressional Record), she explained it by saying “To be clear, Nancy Mace R-NC) continued to cuss in this hearing. And my attitude is, I will match your energy or exceed it. And I felt like I was gonna use a better, you know, way of using the word when I used it. So I did. And that was that.”

Crockett is now getting the attention of the media, for more than her use of the word “shitter.“ LBL has noticed that most references to her are quite recent. So, if you haven’t heard of her before, join the club. But LBL suspects that you will hear a lot about her in the days and months to come. So, unlike LBL’s previous qvetching about the political state of the country, she is smiling as she talks about Jasmine Crockett. You go, girl. Keep sparing no punches. Someone out there has to let those people know what all of us are already thinking.

One of Davy Crockett’s famous quotes originates from his time as a Tennessee Congressman where he promised his constituents that if they did not reelect him, “You may go to hell, and I will go to Texas.” Jasmine Crockett has done Davy one better. She was born in St Louis, moved to Texas to start her own law firm, was elected to Congress, and is now in DC giving the GOP the hell they deserve.
