Required Bio

Renee’s entire life has been formed by her naturally curly hair and her having topograpanosia, a real disorder of the frontal lobe that results in a complete inability to orient herself in space, as well as an inability to remember people’s names. Because of this disorder, she gets lost a lot.  If you see her wandering around anywhere, don’t call anyone.  Just get her ice cream.  That will calm her down.  For the hair, there’s not much you can do.

She is, indeed, a former hula hoop champion, as well as the co-author of two books for women over 50.  They are Invisible No More: The Secret Lives of Women Over 50 and Saving the Best for Last: Creating Our Lives After 50.  She is also a Featured Blogger on Huffington Post.

If you are a very important publisher, a wealthy donor, or if you would like Renee and her co-authors to speak or lead a workshop for your group or organization, you can contact her at lifeintheboomerlane@gmail.com.

  1. Perhaps all the hoola-hooping resulted in the inability to orient herself in space. It’s my first time here – laughed out loud at the I-phone apps post. Glad I found you. Although I can’t remember how I did – perhaps I have blogograpanosia. And maybe I should use that doctor app to determine if I do.

  3. Hi Rene…your Valentine blog drew me here and I must say I love it! I know the ups and downs(more ups than downs) of curly hair and I too gave up on Shantaram! It’s fun to meet a kindred spirit….Anyway, you write awesome stuff….please keep them coming!

I enjoy your sense of humor. Your V-day blog drove me to your “required bio,” and I thought, what a great way to put it. I have a hard time with the biography’s. Maybe one day I’ll get one down. Thanks for the laughs. *Smile*

  10. I absolutely love your blog! I’m flying to New Orleans on Saturday and my boyfriend has been telling me to find a book for the flight and I’m excited I stumbled across your blog to find your books. I ordered Invisible No More and I can’t wait to order Saving the Best for Last. Will that be available on Kindle eventually as well? Thanks for the laughs and I look forward to reading more posts! 🙂

    • Wow, thanks, Mona, I’m honored. Saving the Best for Last includes the entire text of Invisible No More, plus adds new chapters and has exerices at the end of each chapter. We advise people not to get both. Since you have already ordered the first one, read that, and if you’d like to see the expanded version, I’ll send you one. Let me know and give me your mailing address. I’ll even personalize it. The first is supposed to be going on Kindle. Then, I suppose the second will follow.

      • I finished reading Invisible No More and I LOVED it! I’m normally not one to use caps throughout an entire word, but I felt it was necessary in this case! The book was hysterical, eye-opening, and inspirational all at the same time. I, too, am not the best with anatomy, but if I happen to experience what you experienced, at least I will now somewhat know what is going on! Where can your other books be purchased? I find myself checking your blog daily to get my fix of your writing, so purchasing other books probably isn’t a bad idea.

        • Wow, thanks so much for your comments! Invisible No more and Saving the Best for Last are the two books I’ve written with my two friends. But don’t buy Saving the Best for Last, unless you want to spend the money to read the three new chapters we added and see all the discussion questions. The only book I’ve written myself is a novel, King of the Gypsies, which can be ordered on Amazon.

LOVE your blog. Can’t wait to read through the entire archive. In the meantime yes, that was me this morning snorting iced coffee out of my nose as I read “Putting the 50 Shades of Grey Trilogy to Bed.” I am fortunate to have sampled only a few paragraphs of a friend’s copy while sitting on the beach where proximity to the salt water and open air quickly restored my equilibrium.
And I can already predict that your “i read too much” page is going to start cropping up on my Amex bill…

    • Oh my, I am a complete whore for this kind of feedback. Excuse me while I smack myself back to reality. OK, I’m back. I’m glad you enjoy my blog, especially since I am currently in the midst of wondering if I should even continue. I step back and wonder what, exactly, it is that I’m doing. There’s no money in it, and it’s not helping the economy or the environment or even getting rid of the bee’s nest under my front porch. Maybe this malaise will pass. Maybe I need chocolate. A lot of chocolate.

  15. Greetings Renee (I looked up your real name by searching on Amazon),

We’ve met before, but this time I have something to ask of you. A. you are hilarious. and b. I would love if it if you guest posted on my blog. The idea I had for a topic is what you would tell a 23-year-old trying to make it as a writer/blogger/what you wish you had known. If those are boring, you can choose something else.

    Don’t forget that you’re awesome.

    Best,

    Snotting Black.

  18. Hi there. I just wanted to leave a note saying how much I love your fresh take on life and your writing draws this reader in like a child to a hot fudge sundae!! (Or me to one, frankly.) And you know, I have the same lack of response from both committees mentioned in your bio. Maybe it’s a clerical error. 😉 All the best.

  21. I’ve already left my appreciation of your blog but there was so much popping up today from your blog, I just had to stop by to see what the fuss was about. And we can never read too much. Although I never write down what I read. I need to just have someone input all the books in my library and archived in kindle into Goodreads. Too much boring clerical work. Who needs it? I reference your reading page as I am amazed that you have done this. I lack the patience. Keep us smiling with your sense of humor.

Me, too – I won the Hula Hoop contest in my small hometown…My cousin and I tied for First Place – it didn’t hurt that our dads owned the toy store in town and we had a leg up…

  29. You’re a featured blogger on Huffington Post? I love Huffington Post! I’ll keep a lookout for your blog posts on there. Remind me again what ice cream is . . . and no, it’s not because of anything so nasty as a diet but rather that it makes my face break out. Go figure. I had a clear complexion all my life until two years ago (a few months before I turned 60). Guess I’m going through adolescence again. Nothing like being young at heart, or in my case, face, eh?

  42. I did some research on Internet dating when a daughter told me her Mom took her 3-year-old granddaughter on a first date (McDonald’s) with someone she met online. Daughter was incensed. I got on a site to ask how others felt. They agreed – bad idea. Take pictures of grandchildren if you like, but do not use them as armor.
